On the Internet, you will mostly come across the articles that will tell you about the best travel destinations on the planet. But, this article will let you know about the top 10 places that you might not want to explore. I mean you would obviously like to stay away from such places on a vacation trip. This is because such places are full of life threatening elements like pollution and dirty areas all around. I just want to say that it is quite unfortunate that people are brought up even in such poor hygienic areas. This is something that should have never been taken place.

Cité Soleil – Haiti

Nestled in Port-au-Prince, this is a dense and shanty town regarded as among the biggest slum area in the Northern Hemisphere. Besides extreme poverty, constant unemployment, and high illiteracy rates; the place is among the most dangerous sites on Earth with no sewers, no electricity, and very little police. It is also threatened by armed gangs. Crime like tourist kidnapping, murders, and looting and diseases such as AIDS are common here.

Orangi Town – Pakistan

Located in Karachi in Sindh, this is the largest shanty city in Asia. This area has a very bad history of violence, murder, suicide bombings, and rape. The recent Taliban conflict has made many people to shift to this town. In February this year, mass violence had erupted that led to frequent gunshots, empty streets, and no business at all. Further, the basic necessities such as roads, pipelines, and clinics were built only in 1980s.

Dharavi – India

This is among the largest slum areas of Asia located in Mumbai. It is situated close to the Mithi River that meets the Mahim Creek to enter the Arabian Sea. Here itself, the population is over 1 million and that the hygienic conditions are really bad. Further, toilets are so scanty that there exists only 1 toilet per 1400 inhabitants here. And also the Mahim Creek is mostly the sight for urination that has spread many contagious diseases here. So, the entire area smells a lot along with the open sewers.

This is a city located at a distance of 400 km from the capital. Since 1941 until the Cold War, this city was the home of chemical weapon facilities. This means that several kinds of toxic chemicals such as lewisite were formed here. Today, the area is a major centre for chemical processing and is also a major producer of fertilizers, synthetic ammoniac, and herbicides. And therefore, it is one of the most polluted cities on Earth, even more lethal than Chernobyl. Due to this, the life expectancy has now come down to 40s for both males and females.

Linfen – China

This is a city in Shanxi province, which is designated as among the most polluted cities on Earth. All credit goes to its several coal-burning plants for power. Due to this, the city has become misty and dusty that has induced respiratory illnesses in children whose life expectancy is just 10 years. So, do not get surprised if you see each citizen wearing a mask on the face here.

Dallol – Ethiopia

This is a ghost town in the Afar Depression besides the Horn of Africa with only some buildings. This is the area that has witnessed the highest average temperature on the planet, which was as high as 115°F. The town is also among the most isolated sights on Earth without roads. Only camels can take you to this area. Dallol lies near the uncertain Eritrean border and that some violent Afar tribes have made the area risky. Many tourists have been attacked in the recent years.

Centralia – Pennsylvania

Located in the Columbia County, this town has been totally destroyed by a fire in 1962 that was ignited in a large mine beneath. This led to carbon dioxide poisoning and generated sink holes in city limits. Today, the area is flanked by the warning signs of unstable ground and carbon poisoning. One can also see smoke coming out from the different spots in the town. The underground fire has not yet extinguished and it is said that it will stay for some 250 years.

Bubbly Creek – Illinois

This is a part on the Chicago River that is an unclosed sewer area for the stockyards. Huge amount of waste like animal remains and blood was left here by the slaughter houses. Due to this, the water got polluted with hydrogen sulphide and methane gases. Due to lack of oxygen and bloodworms today, no local goes near the creek.

Hanford – Washington

This was the site of the biggest nuclear production at the time of World War II. No proper sewage facilities were made due to which the residents’ lives were threatened. Today, it is the most contaminated nuclear site in the U.S. Obviously, this deserves to be in the list of top 10 places that you might not want to explore.
